Starcatchers

they flickered like fireflies

when they saw me

but his lips never said

anything.

they were like black

crystals, shining, and plainly

cut for everyone

to see.

they became deep, dark pools

that were somehow friendly

when he laughed

and i watched from afar.

her voice told me

with a faint, satisfied smirk

that they were looking

when i wasn’t.

they were the part of the soul that

lured me in

with promises and whispers

and dreams i never knew i had.

they were like starcatchers

but they didn’t catch

balls of gas.

they caught me.
